"We discuss trade and investment relations and other issues, in general. This is since Malaysia is one of our most influential partners in the fields of trade, investment, and tourism," Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi stated.
Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Malaysian King Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI Al-Sultan Abdullah Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah discussed efforts to intensify bilateral cooperation between the neighboring nations.

"We discuss trade and investment relations as well as other issues, in general. This is since Malaysia is one of our most influential partners in the fields of trade, investment, and tourism," Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi remarked after a bilateral meeting between Jokowi and the King at the Bogor Palace, West Java, on Tuesday.

A meeting between Indonesian and Malaysian delegations was also held at the Bogor Palace.

Marsudi noted that both nations should unite in the fight against palm oil discrimination. The president also spoke of Indonesia attempting to find a way to absorb national palm oil production for domestic consumption.

A likely cooperation between Indonesian state oil and gas company Pertamina and its Malaysian partner Petronas was also the topic of discussion, especially on collaboration in implementing projects in other nations.

"Of course, our suggestion is that Petronas and Pertamina should meet and discuss about projects that can be implemented jointly by the two state enterprises," she stated.

The minister spoke of the several meetings between Petronas and Pertamina and them sharing quite close ties since the duo have established sale and purchase cooperation.

"The value is quite large. In the first half of this year, for instance, the value is $133 million. For 2020, the value will be bigger," she affirmed.

Petronas and Pertamina are keen to move forward by establishing more strategic cooperation, for instance, by handling third nations' projects.

During the meeting with the King, Jokowi also touched on Indonesian migrant issues, especially those facing legal issues.

"Certainly, we respect the local legal system. However, we seek consideration and fair treatment. That is the point," she stated.
