Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police's investigators posed 56 questions to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan, on Monday (Jan 6), during an investigation into the acid attack against him by two active police officers in 2017. Brigadier General Argo Yuwono, a spokesman of the police, made the revelation.

"There were 56 questions," Yuwono informed the press at the Police Criminal Investigation Office (Bareskrim) here on Tuesday.

The volley of questions were thrown at Baswedan in connection with the chronology of events in the run-up to the attack against him and what transpired thereafter.

"It concerned what the victim (Novel) experienced, starting from leaving the house, walking, until he was attacked by acid, and when he washed his face with water," he stated.

The police investigators will attempt to match the descriptions given by Baswedan with the statements of other witnesses, he added.

The police were unable to fulfill Baswedan's request to meet the two suspects.

"Now, there is no (plan of a face-to-face meeting between the victim and perpetrators)," he noted.

In the meantime, Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Nana Sudjana stated that his office will examine Baswedan’s case.

"I am new (as the Jakarta Police Chief). Please, I need some time. This is a technical matter," Inspector General Nana stated.

Nevertheless, Nana asserted that his office will oversee the investigation into the Baswedan case until its logical conclusion.

Baswedan was grilled as a witness by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Monday (Jan 6).

The Criminal Investigation Technical Team arrested two suspects, who are active police officers, identified by their initials as RB and RM, on Dec 26, 2010. The two policemen are currently under detention for 20 days at the Bareskrim Detention Center.

On Monday, Baswedan's Advocacy Team noted in a written statement that the police should be able to unearth the motive of the perpetrators, who had either surrendered or had been arrested. The police must also check further whether they attempted to cover up traces of the mastermind behind the attack.

Baswedan’s lawyers also urged the police to be prompt in unravelling the likely involvement of a general and other intellectual actors in the acid attack that damaged the senior KPK investigator’s eyes.
