"Iran and Indonesia have established diplomatic relations since 1950. In 2020, we will commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations and want to enhance cooperation in various dimensions.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Azad visited Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD in Jakarta on Tuesday to hold discussions centering on ways to augment cooperation between both nations.

"Iran and Indonesia have established diplomatic relations since 1950. In 2020, we will commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations and are keen to enhance cooperation in various dimensions," Azad remarked.

He believes that the time has come for Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi to visit Iran to deepen diplomatic relations.

"Nearly five months ago, the Iranian foreign minister had visited Indonesia," he pointed out.

The defense sector is one of the areas of cooperation that the Iranian ambassador offered to Indonesia.

However, he yet awaits the right time to meet with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.

"Iran has good experience in the defense field. If Indonesia is interested, of course, we can cooperate with it," he added.
