Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari was released following her completion of a four-year prison term after being found guilty of corruption in medical equipment procurement in 2005 and accepting gratification of Rp1.9 billion.

"The detainee, Dr. Hj Siti Fadillah Supari Sp Jp, aged 69, was released today, on Saturday, October 31, 2020, after serving four years in prison," Head of Public Relations and Protocol of the Directorate General of Corrections Rika Aprianti noted in a statement received here, Saturday.

Aprianti explained that Supari's release followed the completion of her main sentence as well as the payment of fine imposed on her. She had also paid additional penalties in the form of replacement fees to the state.

Supari was handed over from the Class I Detention Center in Pondok Bambu, Jakarta, to her attorneys.

"The process ran smoothly and in accordance with the health protocols," Aprianti noted.

It was reported that on June 16, 2017, Supari after being found guilty on two counts was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay Rp200 million in fines, or serve an additional two months in prison, in addition to having to return an outstanding of Rp550 million to the state.

One count was for inflicting Rp5.783 billion in state financial losses in the procurement of medical equipment as a precautionary measure against the 2005 extraordinary events (KLB) at the Center for Health Issues Handling (PPMK) through direct appointment to PT Indofarma Tbk.

Meanwhile, the second count was for receiving Rp1.9 billion of gratification for approving the budget revision for medical equipment procurement activities and allowing PT Graha Ismaya to function as distributor for procuring medical devices.
