Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave instructions to form a special committee in preparation for Indonesia's bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games.

"The president has instructed, first, to prepare a special committee for our bidding to host the 2032 Olympics Games and secondly to prepare the budget," Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali stated after a virtual cabinet meeting led by President Jokowi from the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

Jokowi also urged the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) to make all necessary preparations pertaining to the bidding, including the proposal and feasibility studies.

Amali echoed Indonesia’s readiness to host the Olympic Games.

"We have submitted a letter to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) that Indonesia is ready to host the 2032 Olympic Games," the minister noted.

KOI Chief Raja Sapta Oktohari remarked that the bidding process will run until 2023. The IOC will take a decision in 2024 on which country will host the 2032 Olympic Games.

Oktohari stated that Indonesia will compete with Australia, Germany, Unified Korea, Qatar, and India that had also partaken in the bidding process.

"Indonesia has the edge and confidence to compete with other countries, with its stable weather and conducive temperature, security, hospitality, culinary arts, and beauty that will become the primary consideration," the KOI chief pointed out.

On September 1, 2018, at a meeting in Bogor with the presidents of the IOC and Olympic Council of Asia, President Jokowi announced that Indonesia will bid to host the 2032 Olympics following the major success of the 2018 Asian Games and Para Games.

On February 19, 2019, Indonesia had made the 2032 Olympics bid official, as letters from Jokowi and the Indonesian Olympic Committee were delivered to the IOC in Lausanne.

Paris in France and Los Angeles in the United States will host the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games respectively.
