Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo affirmed that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations were replete with a sense of gratitude and blessings of peace.

“The celebrations of the Chinese New Year amid the time of a pandemic certainly makes it difficult for us to celebrate it joyfully with relatives and friends. However, all this does not reduce the sense of gratitude for peace and love with the family,” the president stated via his @jokowi Instagram account, cited from Jakarta, Friday. The head of state prayed for people to continue to uphold the spirit of brotherhood and be safeguarded from diseases and disasters.

In the post, President Jokowi included an illustrated photograph of a family celebrating Chinese New Year with the greeting “Gong Xi Fa Cai” written on it.

The family appeared to be on a video call with other relatives, portraying a joyous celebration of Chinese New Year in their homes amid the COVID-19 pandemic and staying in touch with their loved ones virtually.
