"Relevant parties should monitor the progress in drafting for government regulations on autonomy for Papua to ensure the ratified draft will be advantageous for Papuans," Senator Wamafma stated while receiving West Papua provincial legislature members, who submitted recommendations for the government regulations at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday.
Wamafma, who serves as member of the DPD RI work team to draft government regulations on Papua's autonomy, lauded the recommendations submitted by the regional legislature as an essential public input to ensure that the regulation will mirror the public needs and stance.
"The proposals submitted by the West Papuan provincial legislature would be helpful for the DPD RI during the drafting of government regulations," the senator noted.
Wamafma expressed hope that the government regulation on autonomy for Papua would offer complete autonomy for the province and a solution to issues arising during the initial two decades of regional autonomy in Papua.
"We will push for the government regulation to not be halfway but a complete regional autonomy for Papua," he stated.
Drafting of the government regulation on autonomy for Papua would involve the DPD RI, House of Representatives (DPR RI), and the government. The government regulation would comprise series of laws regulating main points relevant to the Papua Autonomy Law.
The government will draft regulations on special autonomy rights, the appointment of West Papuan provincial legislature and district/city legislature members, healthcare responsibilities, establishment of special agencies, and budget management under the special autonomy scheme.
