We urge the public to maintain the security and order of the XX Papua PON closing ceremony as well as to conduct strict health protocols.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin attended the closing ceremony of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura district, Papua province, at 7 p.m. Eastern Indonesia Standard Time Friday evening.

Ahead of the ceremony, which was streamed on the YouTube channel of 2021 XX Papua PON, Amin and Mrs. Wury Ma’ruf Amin arrived at the Lukas Enembe Stadium wearing red sports jackets and Papuan headdresses.

The event began with the singing of Indonesia Raya – Indonesia’s national anthem -- and was followed by a traditional Papuan dance accompanied by musical instruments arranged by Indonesian music director Andi Rianto.

Besides Rianto, several artistes also enlivened the event, including Nogei, Blasta Rap Merauke, Kork Papua, M.A.C, dan Manggo Rap, NOAH, Saykoji, Iwa K, and Yura Yunita.

The Vice President attended the closing ceremony as part of his agenda for his working visit to several eastern regions of Indonesia, including East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua.

A total of 2,891 joint military and police personnel were deployed to secure the event.

Head of the Deraku Cartenz Ops Task Force, Senior Commissioner Dedy Sumarsono, emphasized that the event prioritized the implementation of the health protocols to curb the transmission of COVID-19.

Furthermore, he informed that all spectators who were admitted to the Lukas Enembe Stadium were required to show their COVID-19 vaccination proof.

"We urge the public to maintain the security and order of the XX Papua PON closing ceremony as well as to conduct strict health protocols by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and not gathering," he reminded.

Spectrators were only allowed to occupy 25 percent of the seats at the stadium.
