Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri), through its International Relations Division, actively monitors developments pertaining to the search for Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz (Eril), West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil's son, who went missing in Aare River, Bern, Switzerland.

Eril has gone missing while swimming in the river since Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Head of Polri's Public Relations Division, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, affirmed that the National Police had taken proactive steps in a bid to find Eril.

"In principle, the National Police, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy, Interpol, and the local Swiss Police, continue to actively monitor developments on the field," Prasetyo stated when contacted here on Monday.

The proactive steps taken by the National Police include submitting the issuance of a Yellow Notice, specifically a global police alert for a missing person.

The National Police also coordinated with the Swiss Police through Police-to-Police cooperation to monitor developments pertaining to the search.

Earlier, in the afternoon of May 26, 2022, Eril, along with his sister and friends, started swimming in the Aare River, Bern. It was sunny when Eril attempted to reach the river banks, but he was dragged by a fairly swift current of the river.

Kamil, who was in England with provincial delegates, immediately headed to Switzerland after receiving the news of his son's incident.

According to an official from the West Java Government, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has allowed Kamil to remain abroad until June 4, 2022, in connection with the disappearance of his eldest son.

"The West Java authority decided to take the initiative (on behalf of Kamil) to request a leave extension to the home affairs minister. Alhamdulillah (thank God), on May 28, the minister has granted his approval to extend the leave permit for urgent business," West Java Regional Sectretary Setiawan Wangsaatmaja stated on Monday.
