Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo on Friday invited investors from Hong Kong to take part in the development of the new Indonesian capital, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan as a green city.

"Hong Kong investors can participate in developing infrastructure, transportation, green energy, digital transformation, and value-added industries," the President said during a meeting with the chief executive of the special administrative region of Hong Kong, John Lee, on the sidelines of the APEC economic leaders’ meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.

Investment was one of the three important issues discussed by Widodo during the meeting, according to a statement received from the press, media, and information bureau of the Presidential Secretariat here on Friday.

Widodo said that in the trade sector, he saw there was still a lot of potential for cooperation that could be developed, for example, in fishery products, processed foods, and spices trade.

"I see a lot of potential that can be worked on, especially with Hong Kong, to create a balanced trade cooperation. Access to Indonesian products can be expedited, including fisheries, processed foods, and spices," he added.

Hong Kong has the potential to become an entry point for Indonesian exports to mainland China, he said.

The President then expressed his gratitude for the assistance and facilities provided to Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Lee congratulated Indonesia on the success of the G20 Presidency, which garnered positive responses from the global community. In addition, Hong Kong expressed its commitment to continuing to enhance cooperation with Indonesia.

President Widodo was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung at the meeting.
