Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesia emerged as the general champion of the 14th International Esports Federation (IESF) World Championships held in Nusa Dua, Badung District, Bali Province, on December 1-11, 2022.

“This (the championships) is a great momentum for (the development of) the esports sector, both domestically and globally, since it is the largest IESF event so far, as there are 105 countries participating in this tournament,” Daily Chairperson of the Indonesian Esports Central Board (PBESI) Bambang Sunarwibowo stated after the closing ceremony of the championships here on Sunday.

He noted that the championships ran well and smoothly, as his side managed to resolve every inadequacy properly.

As the preparation for the 14th IESF World Championships, the PBESI had implemented a national selection process, starting from the district, provincial, to national levels, through various competitions, including the 2022 Esports President Cup.

The selected athletes then partook in a national centralized training to hone their skills and strategies to achieve the targets set by General Chairperson of PBESI Budi Gunawan, which was to become the general champion of the tournament.

"Certainly, it (becoming the champion) is a result of joint efforts and a sense of nationalism can be seen from these athletes during the competition," Sunarwibowo remarked.

The Indonesian contingent, which took part in all of the seven games contested, bagged a total of three gold and one bronze medals.

The first gold medal was secured by Indonesia after winning, with a score of 3-2, over the Philippines in the DOTA 2 grand final match on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

On the same day, Indonesian eFootball player Elga Cahya Putra won another gold medal by defeating Argentina, with a score of 3-0, in the final.

The two gold medals bagged by the DOTA 2 and eFootball national athletes encouraged the Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang (MLBB) national team to clock the same achievement.

The national MLBB team managed to beat the Philippines, with a score of 3-0, in the grand final match that was held on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by the Indonesian Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Female team after losing to Argentina on Thursday (December 8, 2022).
