Jakarta (ANTARA) - Based on the 2024 Election Vulnerability Index (IKP), five strategic issues need to be addressed properly to ensure more open, honest, and fair 2024 General Elections, the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has said.

"Referring to findings and research from the 2024 Election Vulnerability Index, the Bawaslu noted that some strategic issues must be our common concern, particularly for electoral organizers, to ensure the 2024 General Elections are more open, honest, and fair," Bawaslu Commissioner Lolly Suhenty said while sharing information about the index at the 2024 Election Vulnerability Index launch event here on Friday.

"Polemics during the actual verification of political parties, where we saw internal conflicts between electoral organizers, are a valuable experience highlighting the urgency to maintain neutrality and professionalism," she added.

The second strategic issue is related to the conduct of elections in the new autonomous provinces of Papua, namely Central Papua, South Papua, Papua Pegunungan, and Southwest Papua, the commissioner disclosed.

Bawaslu urged electoral organizers to ensure the readiness of the new provinces to follow the ongoing election process, she said.

"The third strategic issue is on the polarization among the public regarding their political support, which we should pay attention to, to maintain conducive and stable conditions amid the ongoing election process," Suhenty added.

The intensity of social media use in the election and mitigation steps to reduce political effects and vulnerabilities in the sphere comprise the next strategic issue, she said.

The fifth strategic issue is the fulfillment and protection of voters' rights, particularly women and vulnerable groups, the official informed.

The 2024 Election Vulnerability Index was obtained by calculating 61 indicators in four dimensions, namely social and politics, election organization, electoral contests, and election participation, Suhenty said.
