Simalungun, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) gave a tour of Sait Buttu Saribu Quality Family Village (Kampung KB) in Pematang Sidamanik sub-district, Simalungun district, North Sumatra, to representatives from foreign embassies and international organizations.

During the visit on Thursday, BKKBN's deputy for training, research, and development, Muhammad, Rizal M. Damanik, said that initially, the development of Kampung KB only aimed to reduce disparities in the achievements of the Family Development, Population, and Family Planning (Bangga Kencana) Program in various regions.

“However, currently, the Kampung KB model has become a best practice of the Bangga Kencana Program,” he said.

The foreign delegates participating in Thursday’s visit came from the embassies of Mozambique, Poland, Romania, and the Netherlands, he informed.

In addition, representatives from Seychelles, the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Medan, the Netherlands Honorary Consulate in Medan, as well as the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Medan also took part in the activity.

They were joined by delegates from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Programme (WFP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

“We are promoting the best methods applied in developing Indonesia's human resources through the Bangga Kencana Program at the regional level… as well as exploring the potential for cooperation in implementing the Bangga Kencana Program at each village," Damanik said.

At the village, the delegates were invited to see the Public Service Car Unit (Muyan); community catfish farms used to fulfill the animal protein intake of local residents; a Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting (Dashat); a waste bank; as well as a medical check-up facility for the elderly.

BKKBN also showcased the implementation of the Fostering Families with Toddler (BKB) Program at Integrated Service Post (Posyandu) Asri, where delegates observed a number of midwives and volunteers examine the physical health of toddlers and engage in activities to build children’s motor skills.

The foreign delegation also reviewed the implementation of Fostering Families with Adolescents (BKR) Program, Generation Planning (GenRe) Program, and Ready for Marriage and Pregnancy Electronic Application (Elsimil).

The delegates also held discussions with the local youths on various issues such as free sex, drugs, and early marriage.

They also observed doctors and midwives providing contraceptive injections and contraceptive implants at the Family Planning Service Post.

The delegates also enjoyed traditional herbal drinks and local snacks such as steamed bananas as well as boiled peanuts and corn.

In addition, they were invited to shop for local handicrafts at the “Business Space for Improving Acceptor Family Income (UPPKA).
