"At present, the RW-level police programme by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police will be the pilot programme for (further adoption in) all regional police nationwide," Jakarta Police's Director of Community Development Senior Commissioner Badya Wijaya noted as per a statement here Thursday.
Wijaya explained that his side had received a visit from the Community Development Coordinator of the National Police's Security Maintenance Agency and officers from regional police forces nationwide to study the RW-level police programme in West Jakarta.
"The Security Maintenance Agency is conducting a study on the RW-level police programme in the Greater Jakarta Police and visited Tambora Sub-district Police, the location of the new programme's pilot," he explained.
The senior commissioner noted that 34 community development directors from regional police forces nationwide had visited the Tambora Sub-district Police to study the program on Wednesday (April 12).
The new Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Inspector General Kartoyo, had also conveyed on Monday (April 10) his commitment to continuing the program initiated by his predecessor, he stated.
"The new Jakarta Police chief instructed us to enhance the RW-level police programme to follow up on the National Police chief's instruction. The new Police chief had conveyed the instruction from the start of his tenure," Wijaya stated.
The RW-level police programme is implemented by mobilizing police officers at each community unit in Jakarta to develop positive interactions between the police and community.
Police officers assigned in each community unit would work akin to a liaison officer (LO). They are expected to listen, be receptive, and empathize with all requests, demands, or grievances conveyed by residents in their area.
"The police at each RW is the same as an LO. If they cannot resolve the issue alone. They are required to report the issue reported by residents to the higher police unit for follow-up actions," Wijaya remarked.
