In the future, all the runways at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are expected to be able to carry out simultaneous take-off and landing activities.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian state-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II explores cooperation with the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to improve infrastructure and services in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang City, Banten Province.

"AP II is currently the largest airport operator in Indonesia as we manage 20 airports with a market share of air traffic reaching 45.6 percent," President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin noted, as quoted from a press release received on Saturday.

His party had met with Senior Country Manager for the Indo-Pacific and East Asia of the USTDA Alissa Lee-Barden as well as the representatives of the US-Southeast Asia Aviation and Pacific Cooperation Program (ACP) at AP II’s headquarters in Tangerang City, Banten Province, on Friday (May 12, 2023).

Meanwhile, the USTDA is an institution that supports infrastructure development and sustainable economic growth.

According to the statement, the airports managed by AP II, one of which is Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang City, are among the busiest and largest airports in Indonesia.

Currently, the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has three terminals, namely Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. It is the only airport in Indonesia which has three runways.

The number of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s runways is similar to those owned by Seattle-Tacoma Airport (Seattle), Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, as well as San Francisco Airport in the United States.

"AP II and USTDA can carry out a joint comparative study at the three airports in the US to optimize the uses of the three runways at Soekarno-Hatta Airport," the president director of AP II stated.

He informed that the comparative study may include the implementation of runway operating procedures and the development of runway supporting infrastructure, such as rapid exit taxiways.

Currently, his party is revitalizing the existing passenger terminals at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Later, AP II will build Terminal 4, thus the airport will be able to serve more than 120 million passengers per year.

"In the future, all the runways at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are expected to be able to carry out simultaneous take-off and landing activities. Certainly, its implementation will be coordinated with (state-run air traffic control service provider) AirNav Indonesia," Awaluddin noted.

He stated at the meeting that apart from the airport operation, his party also has subsidiary businesses in property and infrastructure, cargo, ground handling, passenger lounge service, and other sectors.

Meanwhile, Lee informed that her party has experience in supporting airport development.

The USTDA can carry out airport feasibility and master planning, modernization and expansion, engineering and design, as well as safety and security, she added.
