"Bawaslu, consistent with applicable regulations, is paying close attention to the supervision of the implementation of the general elections abroad to ensure the smooth running of the elections," Head of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja remarked in Jakarta on Tuesday (Oct 24) evening.
Bagja made the statement after attending the Coordination Meeting for the Prevention and Supervision of Overseas Violations in the 2024 General Elections.
He noted that the agency had prepared 60 units of Overseas General Elections Supervisory Committee, with the objective of making the upcoming general elections a success without any violations taking place.
According to Bagja, Bawaslu is placing special focus on three aspects to prevent violations in overseas elections, namely border regions, campaigns, and the neutrality of civil servants as well as personnel of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).
The voting process abroad will take place earlier than that in Indonesia, which is scheduled on February 14, 2024, he noted.

Hence, he urged overseas committees to ensure that no one in border regions votes twice, outside and within Indonesian borders.
"During the voting process, there is a possibility of people exercising their voting rights twice, both abroad and in Indonesia on February 14. We should pay close attention to this," he stated.
Furthermore, he noted that his agency is currently investigating the findings of names of TNI and Polri personnel listed as voters in the upcoming elections.
"We are currently investigating several names listed abroad," he remarked.
Based on data from the General Elections Commission (KPU), the number of people in the Official Voters' List (DPT) for the 2024 General Elections has reached 204,807,222. They comprise Indonesian citizens living in 38 provinces and abroad.
Of the total voters, 203,056,748 live in Indonesia, while 1,750,474 reside in 128 other countries.
