The ministry's Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation, Rachmat Kaimuddin, stated that air pollution in Greater Jakarta is a complex and multi-layered challenge that requires collaboration with national and international stakeholders to formulate and implement innovative solutions.
"Therefore, we are excited to establish a new partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies and ViriyaENB, as they will bring world-class expertise and solutions," he noted here, Wednesday.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Environment Program Leader Antha Williams stated that air pollution is an environmental and public health challenge that can only be addressed with accurate data, political will, and strong partnerships.
"Through this new collaboration with the Indonesian government, we are looking forward to working with partners and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment to ensure the Greater Jakarta area has access to clean air that will improve health and strengthen the economy," Williams stated.
The partnership will support Indonesia's efforts to reduce air pollution by promoting the use of transparent data sources and a scientific evidence-based approach to support policymaking on air quality.
Furthermore, it will adopt a multi-stakeholder approach to involve all central government agencies, relevant local governments, industry, key community groups, and experts in developing a comprehensive clean air action plan for Greater Jakarta.
The collaboration includes utilizing the best national and international technical expertise to support air quality improvement in Greater Jakarta.
ViriyaENB Executive Director Suzanty Sitorus stated that the results of the initiative will not only reduce air pollution impacts in the metropolitan area but will also provide a blueprint for all of Indonesia to follow.
Indonesia's partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies and ViriyaENB is a continuation of the Jakarta Clean Air Partnership launched in 2020.
