If they qualify for the Olympics, the assistance will be increased.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo announced on Monday that the government has provided funding for 11 sports organizations whose athletes will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifications.

He said that the financial assistance of Rp61.5 billion (around US$4 million) is part of the government's commitment to improving national sports achievements in the Olympics.

He made the announcement during the signing of a cooperation agreement between the ministry and sports organizations on national centralized training in preparation for the Paris Olympic qualifiers.

The assistance has been provided to PABSI (weightlifting), ISSI (cycling), Persani (gymnastics), Perpani (archery), PBVSI (volleyball), PBTI (taekwondo), PBSI (badminton), PSOI (surfing), PJSI (judo), PASI (athletics), and Akuatik Indonesia (aquatic sports).

Two other sports organizations, PODSI (rowing) and Perbakin (shooting and hunting), will receive the government's assistance in the near future.

Ariotedjo said that the aid will be used for the selection process, development, coaching, and to meet other requirements for Olympic qualifications.

He said that the government will raise the amount of assistance for each sport that passes the qualifiers to motivate athletes to secure medals.

"If they qualify for the Olympics, the assistance will be increased," he said.

He added that the government does not have a specific target for the number of athletes qualifying for the Olympics, but it is expecting that as many athletes as possible will compete in the qualifiers.
