Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said the Public Security and Order Agency (Satpol PP) is at the forefront of enforcing regional regulations.

"Satpol PP has the main duty and is the spearhead to enforce regional regulations," Karanavian said here on Sunday.

Minister Karnavian said this at the national-level commemoration of the 74th Anniversary of Satpol-PP and the 62nd Anniversary of the Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) in Padang City, West Sumatra.

He emphasized that the presence of Satpol PP personnel along with other elements is very important in maintaining security and order and protecting the community, especially by enforcing regional regulations.

He explained that the position of the Satpoll PP is different from the National Police (Polri) personnel.

He explained that the Polri Corps is more about maintaining public security and order and fostering society by enforcing positive laws. Meanwhile, the Satpol PP is more about enforcing local regulations.

In addition, Karnavian said that the Satpol PP force had an important and big role in the success of the 2024 election.

According to him, the election that went smoothly could not be separated from the role of the security forces, especially the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), including Satpol PP members in the regions.

"We should be grateful that the 2024 elections ran relatively safe, well, and smoothly," he said.

Indonesia is considered to be successful in running the election, based on its population, he said.

The home minister said that mobilizing 208 million registered voters with eight million polling station workers and 800 thousand supervisors was not an easy job.

"The success of holding the election is not the work of one person, but a collective work," he said.
