Pelni is predicting the number will continue to increase considering that its return flow transportation period will only end on April 26.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned shipping company PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) served 304,160 sea passengers during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus period from March 26 to April 11, 2024.

The number comprised 264,754 passengers of ferry ships and 39,406 passengers of connecting ferries.

Head of Pelni's Secretariat Evan Eryanto, in a statement here on Saturday (April 13), stated that the realization is 5.22 percent higher compared to the company's projected number of 289,057 passengers.

"The peak of Eid exodus flow of Pelni's ships occurred D-5 or April 5, with 26,692 passengers recorded," he said.

According to him, Pelni is currently focusing on the services for the 2024 Eid exodus return flow which started on Friday (April 12). He noted that as of Saturday (April 13), Pelni has sold 148,724 tickets for ferries and 2,914 tickets for connecting ferries.

Pelni is predicting the number will continue to increase considering that its return flow transportation period will only end on April 26.

"The company is predicting the peak of return flow of Pelni's ferries will occur D+10 (April 21), with a projected number of passengers reaching 25,425 passengers," he remarked.

As of D+2 of 2024 Eid al-Fitr, Pelni recorded five routes that were most busy during the 2024 Eid transportation period.

Those five routes are Batam-Belawan (16,434 passengers), Belawan-Batam (14,650 passengers), Kumai-Semarang (12,389 passengers), Balikpapan-Surabaya (10,794 passengers), and Makassar-Surabaya (9,838 passengers).

As for ports, the busiest ones are in Makassar, with 36,776 passengers, followed by Balikpapan, with 30,655 passengers; Ambon, 27,153 passengers; Batam, 23,980 passengers; and Baubau, 22,624 passengers.

Meanwhile, the spread of Pelni's passengers is dominated by the central region, with 43.1 percent or 178,099 passengers, followed by the western region, with 31.9 percent or 131,697 passengers, and the eastern region, with 25.1 percent or 103,682 passengers.
