"The peak of the Jakarta Anniversary event will be held at the National Monument (Monas)," Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono stated after visiting the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery here on Wednesday.
Hartono revealed that the provincial government has prepared a series of events, including an official ceremony, the Pesta Rakyat event, as well as the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) plenary meeting.
These events aim to entertain Jakarta's citizens, in addition to the ongoing Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ) or the Jakarta Fair that had been held for a month.
"First, we will start with the ceremony, then the plenary session, and there is the Pesta Rakyat (People's Party) at Monas in the evening," Hartono stated.
He stated that the Jakarta International Marathon will be held in the morning of Sunday (June 23).
Ahead of Jakarta's 497th anniversary, the provincial government and representatives of the Jakarta State Civil Apparatus (ASN) visited the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery and paid tribute to the late first mayor of Jakarta, Suwirjo, who served during the 1945-1947 period.
"We prayed for the best for him, who had contributed and led this city after independence," Hartono remarked.
The grave visit took place solemnly and continued with the act of placing flowers on Suwirjo's grave, marked with the Red and White flag.
The city officials thereafter offered flowers on the graves located in Blocks A to E.
Speaker of the Jakarta DPRD, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, also participated in the activity.
This activity not only aimed to commemorate and honor the services of the past heroes who had built the city of Jakarta but was also expected to inspire and motivate the next generation to advance Jakarta towards becoming a global business city.
