KPU member Iffa Rosita noted that provisions regarding re-voting are put forward in Articles 50, 51, and 52 of KPU Regulation No. 17 of 2024 concerning voting and ballot calculation in provincial, district, and municipal head elections.
"First, we urge KPU local offices in districts, cities, and provinces to coordinate with regional governments, particularly regional disaster mitigation agencies (BPBDs)," she remarked when contacted from Jakarta on Thursday.
Second, Rosita underscored the need for the voting organizing group (KPPS) to immediately propose re-voting and elaborate on the cause of the voting postponement.
Third, the proposal should be forwarded to sub-district organizing committees (PPK), which will submit it to the KPU local offices for assessment of the eligibility for re-voting, she added.
"KPU offices at the provincial and/or district/municipal levels will have to assess the proposal to ascertain that a polling station genuinely needs to conduct re-voting on account of security concerns and/or natural disasters," Rosita explained.
Fifth, she noted that a polling station should organize re-voting no later than 10 days after the original voting day.
Earlier, on voting day, Home Affairs Deputy Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto stated that the Pilkada 2024 went smoothly in disaster-hit regions, such as East Flores District in East Nusa Tenggara, currently grappling with eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.
"So far, based on reports, it ran smoothly. In evacuation centers, the residents were very enthusiastic," he remarked after monitoring a polling station in Jakarta.
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan made similar statements at a different location in Jakarta.
However, the minister noted that several regions will need to organize re-voting on account of natural disasters.
"Re-voting is required in several regions affected by natural disasters, such as volcanic eruptions, landslides, and floods," he expounded.
