Population and Family Planning Minister Wihaji said here on Friday that the movement, which is one of his ministry's five Quick Win programs, will be launched on December 5, 2024.
Genting has been devised as a community-based collaborative program to create healthy, intelligent, strong, and non-stunted generations in Indonesia.
The movement is a form of assistance for families at risk of stunting, which will involve partners as foster parents.
The Genting program will be implemented independently by partners and supported by Family Planning Counselors (PKLB) or the ministry's cadres.
The foster parents will range from individuals to agencies such as state-owned enterprises, region-owned enterprises, and NGOs.
At-risk families targeted by the program will include those with pregnant women, mothers with under-five children or women who are breastfeeding, children aged 0–23 months, and children aged 24–59 months.
The intervention will include both nutrition-based assistance, especially in the first 1,000 days of life, and non-nutrition assistance, such as renovation of toilets and houses. The program will also include the provision of clean water and education on stunting prevention and handling.
Wihaji highlighted that the stunting rate in several regions, such as Southeast Sulawesi, Central Papua, and Papua Pegunungan, is still high. Nationally, stunting reduction achievement has also not been maximal.
He further noted that many small islands in Indonesia are not covered by adequate health services.
To this end, he emphasized the importance of effective, efficient, and accurate stunting handling programs.
According to data from the Ministry of Population and Family Planning, 8.68 million families at risk of stunting have been identified. Of the number, 1.48 million are from the low-income group.
"We will prioritize these 1.4 million (low-income families) for (stunting) prevention. We will move to help them through the Genting program," the minister informed.
