Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan assured the public that the Christmas and New Year holidays are proceeding safely.

He made this statement after inspecting several crowded areas on Wednesday.

Gunawan noted that security efforts have been implemented through intensive coordination among the Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and local governments to ensure safety and maintain a conducive environment across Indonesia.

"Security and service posts located at strategic locations have worked optimally to provide a sense of safety for people celebrating the holidays," Gunawan said after reviewing the Ragunan area in Jakarta.

He also visited other crowded areas in Jakarta, including shopping centers, tourist destinations, places of worship, and transportation hubs.

Gunawan appealed to the public to maintain order and security during the holiday period, emphasizing that active community participation is crucial for maintaining stability in neighborhoods, crowded areas, and during travel.

"President Prabowo Subianto extends his greetings to holiday travelers, urging them to stay cautious and vigilant wherever they are. Report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately so prompt action can be taken," he added.

He also reminded the public of the forecast for extreme weather during the year-end holidays. Given the increasing rain intensity in several regions, the risks of disasters such as floods, landslides, and strong winds should be anticipated.

Therefore, he urged the public to remain vigilant and prepare for potential disasters by saving emergency numbers, ensuring access to emergency equipment, and regularly checking updated information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
