Support is needed to ensure that AI can develop well not only domestically but also influence other countries, especially at the regional level, he said.
"I think Mr. Luhut's idea is very good for us to become an important player (in AI technology). At least, we can be champions in Southeast Asia by becoming an AI hub center for the development of digital talent as well as its infrastructure and products," he added here on Tuesday.
He said that creating an Indonesian AI system is possible as long as national digital talents are ready to build one.
According to Patria, trust in Indonesian digital talents must be fostered because China—which has succeeded in developing DeepSeek—started with the same initial steps.
China enabled its digital talents to study abroad before calling them back home to produce an AI system that suits the needs of the country.
Patria said that to support similar efforts and initiatives in Indonesia, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has provided various digital talent training programs to prepare human resources who are well-versed in the latest technologies.
Through the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) program, Indonesian digital talents are being trained to improve their abilities with the support of various global corporate and university partners, he added.
In addition, the ministry is providing certification to support the absorption of digital talents in related industries so that later they can gain work experience and develop technological innovations for Indonesia.
"So, there will be a process of transfer of knowledge, transfer of skills, which are useful for strengthening our talents in the future. Because without strong digital talent, we may have to work hard to boost this digital economy sector to be better," he added.
