Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo has emphasized that Indonesia will provide international-level security to the Bahrain football team during their upcoming World Cup qualifier match in Jakarta.

Indonesia will play against Bahrain in the continuation of the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the Asia zone at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Jakarta on March 25, 2025.

"We have committed to welcoming the Bahrain national team with security standards that have been prepared according to international standards. Surely, we will fulfill all the concepts that they request and hope for," Ariotedjo said here on Tuesday.

Earlier, he held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Indonesia, Ahmed Abdullah Alharmasi Alhajeri, to discuss the security cover for the Bahrain national team during their away match in Indonesia.

Minister Ariotedjo revealed that the Bahraini Ambassador expressed concern over the security of the Bahrain team due to online abuse and threats from Indonesian Internet users following the first match between the two teams in October 2024.

"I met with the Bahraini Ambassador because there has been a lot of discussions on social media from netizens. This has raised some concerns from the Bahrain national team," he said.

"The Ambassador himself said that he has been here for years and feels the warmth of Indonesia. We conveyed that while Indonesia may seem 'lively' on social media, in reality, it is quite peaceful," he added.

Indonesia's upcoming match against Bahrain is one that Indonesian fans are waiting for eagerly, especially after the Garuda team drew 2-2 in the match against Bahrain.
