Aji Muhawarman, the ministry's head of communication and public service bureau, noted in a statement on Wednesday that if the investigation found violations of ethics and professional discipline, KKI would temporarily revoke the STR of the doctor concerned.
His side would also recommend that the local Health Service revoke the perpetrator's practice permit (SIP).
"KKI is currently conducting a thorough investigation of this case by actively coordinating with various related parties, including professional organizations, health service facilities, and law enforcement officers," Muhawarman noted in a statement on Wednesday.
He expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the alleged harassment.
He stated that this incident had tarnished the noble values of the medical profession and eroded public trust in medical personnel and health services.
"We ensure that KKI and all stakeholders will monitor the development of this case and ensure a fair and transparent resolution," he affirmed.
His side is fully committed to maintaining the integrity and professionalism of medical personnel and health workers for the protection and safety of all patients.
"Patient protection is the most important aspect and cannot be negotiated," he emphasized.
An obstetrician was suspected of sexually harassing his patient at a private health clinic in Garut, West Java. The incident allegedly occurred on June 20, 2024.
Surveillance video showing the harassment has been widely circulated on social media, and the Garut Police are still investigating this case.
In a separate statement, Assistant Deputy for the Provision of Services for Women Victims of Violence at the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Ratna Oeni Cholifah, stated that the alleged perpetrator, with the initials MSF, is no longer practicing medicine at the KH Clinic, AQ Hospital, or M Regional Hospital.
Based on information obtained from her side, the alleged perpetrator was subjected to violence in 2024 by the victim's husband, who was enraged by the harassment of his wife. However, the matter was resolved amicably between the two parties.
"A few months ago, in 2024, the perpetrator was punched by the patient's husband, but the matter was resolved peacefully. Currently, because (the number of) victims is large, (the case) has been brought back into the public spotlight," she stated.
