Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian workforce, with its immense size, remains a vital pillar of national development efforts, according to Minister of Manpower Yassierli.

"With nearly 145 million workers, Indonesian laborers form the largest and most crucial entity for the development and progress of this country," he noted in an official statement cited here on Thursday.

Yassierli and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto accompanied President Prabowo Subianto at a mass gathering for the 2025 International Workers' Day celebration at the National Monument in Jakarta.

Given the significant share of workers in the population, the minister emphasized the importance of all stakeholders in the employment sector aligning efforts to leverage this year's May Day as a platform to enhance workers' welfare, promote harmonious industrial relations, and strengthen national competitiveness.

He also urged all parties to base their collaborative actions on the noble values of Pancasila, Indonesia’s national ideology, to ensure the workforce is capable of helping the nation navigate the ever-evolving global landscape.

Additionally, the minister expressed gratitude to all members of the workforce for their dedication and contributions to the nation.

"Happy 2025 International Workers' Day. May Day is a day of collaboration," he concluded.

In his address at the May Day event, President Prabowo responded directly to key demands raised by unionized workers, assuring them that the government is on their side.

He pledged to establish a National Labor Welfare Council to enhance employment regulations and work towards the abolition of outsourcing practices, among other reforms.

Furthermore, the president expressed support for fast-tracking the legislation of bills related to domestic workers' protection and the confiscation of assets from corrupt individuals.

On the global stage, Prabowo stressed his commitment to advocating for the ratification of the International Labour Organization's Convention No. 188 on Work in Fishing.
