The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) began with a meeting to foster support and build commitment for Palestine's independence at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Monday.
Chairperson of the Indonesian Legislature's Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Mardani Ali Sera, presided over the 53rd meeting of the executive committee, which drew participation from multinational lawmakers.
Sera steered the audience's attention to Israel, firmly condemning its persistent occupation and genocidal acts in the Gaza Strip.
The Indonesian legislator called on all members of the PUIC to take tangible action against Israel's atrocities by intensifying parliamentary diplomacy to foster a higher level of solidarity for humanitarian efforts.
Furthermore, the session's chair emphasized the need to uphold international law and hold Israel accountable for its crimes against humanity in Palestine.
Meanwhile, deputy chairperson of the BKSAP, Muhammad Husein Fadlulloh, stressed that international support for Palestine's cause would never cease.
"It is crucial that we continue to do our utmost to echo support for the freedom of the Palestinian people," he told the media on the sidelines of the session.
Fadlulloh highlighted that all Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states share the same view regarding Israel's invasion of Gaza.
The session is expected to result in joint recommendations for other international organizations to adopt, he added.
He then contended that each country may have different ways to support Palestine, citing Indonesia's success in establishing a hospital in Gaza.
The lawmaker also spoke highly of the role Egypt is playing in the distribution of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
"Without Egypt's support, it would be very difficult for us to deliver food aid," he said, referring to the country's position as a pivotal corridor to Gaza.
