The Palestinian issue was among the topics discussed during both the bilateral and one-on-one meetings between President Prabowo and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
"One of the most important points in my discussion with President Macron was related to France's willingness to encourage a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue. France will also continue to support steps toward Palestinian independence," Prabowo stated during a joint statement.
President Macron also reiterated his country's commitment to urging Israel to end its invasion and military operations in Gaza.
In this regard, France also shares Indonesia's position in calling on Israel to open full access for humanitarian aid into Gaza.
"We support the plan of France and Saudi Arabia to hold a summit, a high-level conference, in June to encourage the completion of a two-state solution and realize peace in the Middle East region," Prabowo remarked.
At various world-level forums, Prabowo had emphasized Indonesia's commitment to a two-state solution and Palestinian independence as the path to lasting peace.
The two presidents delivered a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace before journalists from the Indonesian Presidential Palace and those following Macron's agenda.
In the same statement, President Prabowo expressed his gratitude to President Macron and referred to Macron as the first president of the European Union to officially visit Indonesia during his administration.
During President Macron's series of visits to the Merdeka Palace, the two heads of state held a one-on-one meeting and a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian and French government delegations.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements between Indonesia and France.
