Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed Indonesia's unwavering support for the two-state solution as a peaceful resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict, Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf emphasized.

Staquf made the statement in response to remarks delivered by President Prabowo during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (May 28).

In a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday, Staquf stressed that the consolidation of global powers is essential to transforming the two-state solution from a political aspiration into a practical reality.

"It is crucial to foster international consolidation through legitimate multilateral platforms to drive decisive political processes toward the realization of the two-state solution," he stated.

However, he underscored that the immediate priority of the international community should be to halt Israel’s incessant indiscriminate attacks on Gaza and ensure the protection of innocent civilians, particularly children, women, and the elderly.

"The international community should unite to push for the optimal enforcement of existing agreements related to the Israel-Palestine conflict," he remarked.

During Wednesday's press conference, President Prabowo reiterated that Indonesia consistently supports the two-state solution as a viable path to peace.

"In various places and forums, I have made it clear that Indonesia favors the two-state solution," he affirmed. "Independence for the Palestinian people is the only way to achieve true peace," he added.

Prabowo also noted that both Indonesia and France share a common stance on Palestine's right to freedom and that he and President Macron had jointly called on the Israeli military to cease its offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The president further stated that both nations urged Israel to allow the continuous and unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
