Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has called on Israel to immediately end its illegal occupation and fully withdraw from Palestinian territories, aligning itself with the recent advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The appeal was delivered by Deputy Minister for Human Rights, Mugiyanto, during the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

Mugiyanto underscored the urgency of halting Israel’s annexation practices and the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.

He also condemned what he described as the hypocrisy of nations that advocate human rights but remain silent on violations in Gaza.

"When leaders act arbitrarily and abuse power to trample international law—as we see in Gaza and now in Iran—the world must not remain silent," he said.

Speaking before UNHRC member states, Mugiyanto raised concerns over violations of freedom of expression, assembly, and association—especially targeting Palestinian rights defenders.

"The suppression of Palestinian human rights defenders is a blatant violation of fundamental freedoms upheld by the international community," he emphasized.

Mugiyanto stressed that international solidarity with Palestine and its right to self-determination must be grounded in universal human rights principles—not selective interests.

"Global solidarity is more important than ever in defending peace, justice, and human rights," he concluded before UNHRC President Jürg Lauber.

His remarks reaffirm Indonesia’s longstanding support for Palestinian rights and its call for the enforcement of international law.
