Speaking at the ANTARA Heritage Center in Central Jakarta on Friday, he added that the government will wait for definitive regional secretaries to be inaugurated to ensure the planned retreat includes the intended participants.
“It should be noted that the holders of the regional secretary position are still changing due to retirements and rotations. We must first ensure all bureaucratic processes are completed so that the retreat brings together only definitive regional secretaries,” Sugiarto said.
The deputy minister disclosed that the government has yet to determine the exact date and venue for the national briefing. “We are still making preparations,” he added.
The plan for the retreat, which targets secretaries of provincial, district, and municipal governments, was first announced by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who said the event was being planned at the direction of President Prabowo Subianto.
“As senior bureaucrats, it is important for regional secretaries to strengthen their capacity,” he added after opening the second batch of the national retreat for regional leaders at the Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) in Sumedang district, West Java, on June 23, 2025.
He said that the event may take place in Magelang, Central Java.
On June 26, Deputy Minister Sugiarto highlighted that the government is considering holding the regional secretary briefing in conjunction with the national retreat for the third batch of regional leaders.
“We will calculate the number of participants for the third batch. Since the number will be much lower than that of the second batch, it is possible to organize the third batch alongside the retreat for regional secretaries,” he said in Sumedang.
