South Tangerang (ANTARA) - An explosion of unknown origin damaged eight homes in a densely populated area of Pondok Cabe Ilir Village, Pamulang Sub-district, South Tangerang City, Banten, early Friday, police reported.

“There are eight homes affected, with four suffering severe damage and four others sustaining minor damage,” Chief of South Tangerang Municipal Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Victor Inkiriwang told the media.

He confirmed that the incident also left three residents seriously injured and four others with minor wounds.

“Three victims are currently receiving hospital treatment, while four others have completed initial care and are undergoing outpatient recovery,” Inkiriwang explained.

The police chief noted that the explosion, which had an impact radius of about 500 meters, occurred between 5:15 and 5:30 a.m. local time. The cause has not yet been identified.

“We have secured and sterilized the scene to facilitate the investigation. The National Police Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) will examine the site to identify the cause of the explosion,” he said.

He added that a Puslabfor team would collect samples at the site to determine the source of the blast.

Inkiriwang further explained that residents near the site had been evacuated to a distance of up to 10 meters as a precaution against possible follow-up explosions, with South Tangerang Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel deployed for security.

Police also requested state-owned electricity company PLN to temporarily cut off power in the area to reduce potential risks.
