Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has instructed the disaster response team to prioritize evacuees affected by massive floods in Bali.

"Please prioritize elderly residents, babies, children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and people with special needs," he said during a visit to a flood evacuation post in Denpasar on Friday.

He also asked that evacuees suffering from illnesses, including skin diseases caused by the flood, receive proper medical care.

Gibran expressed hope that students could continue their schooling and learning activities despite the disaster. He assured evacuees that damaged public facilities, including schools, would be rebuilt by the government.

According to him, the central and regional governments are currently assessing losses to repair homes and businesses damaged by the floods.

"We have been instructed by the President to take immediate action and ensure that the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) delivers aid to its intended beneficiaries," Gibran remarked.

One of the victims, Ida Ayu Suryawati, appealed for assistance to restart her business and for credit relief. She reported losing more than Rp40 million (US$2,300) after her mobile phone shop was destroyed.

"My shop was completely destroyed and soaked; nothing could be saved," she said.

The Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported severe flooding and landslides at 123 locations across seven districts and cities — Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Tabanan, Klungkung, Karangasem, and Jembrana.

As of Friday morning, the BPBD confirmed 18 fatalities: 12 in Denpasar, three in Gianyar, two in Jembrana, and one in Badung.
