Meulaboh (ANTARA) - West Aceh District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has blocked off four fire locations to prevent the spread of forest and land fires (karhutla) that have occurred in several sub-districts in the area.

"The goal of blocking off these fire locations is to prevent the flames from spreading to other locations, which would result in an expanded fire area," Acting Head of the District BPBD Teuku Ronal Nehdiansyah said in West Aceh, on Thursday.

He explained that the fire breaks are located in Keub Village in Arongan Lambalek Sub-district and Deuah Village in Samatiga Sub-district.

Fire breaks were also made in Leuhan Village, Lapang Village, and Suak Raya Village, in Johan Pahlawan Sub-district.

Nehdiansyah stated that after blocking off the fire locations, as of Thursday afternoon, there had been no increase in the fire area in West Aceh.

The current burned area is still recorded at 19 hectares, with the locations being seven hectares in Keub Village, Arongan Lambalek Sub-district.

Furthermore, the burned area in Napai Village, West Woyla Sub-district, has reached three hectares, and in Leuhan and Lapang Villages, Johan Pahlawan Sub-district, the burned area is approximately two hectares.

Meanwhile, the burned area in Suak Raya Village, Johan Pahlawan Sub-district, has reached 0.5 hectares, and in Ujong Tanoh Darat Village, Meureubo Sub-district, the burned area has reached 0.3 hectares.

Nehdiansyah stated that limited water sources around the fire sites also contributed to the spread of the fires.

The West Aceh BPBD also deployed one fire brigade unit to the Meureubo fire station, one D-Max vehicle, one pickup truck, one Robin engine, one Kohler engine, and one drone.

The elements involved in the firefighting efforts include the West Aceh BPBD, firefighters from the West Aceh BPBD Command Headquarters (Mako BPBD), the Meureubo Firefighters Post, personnel from the Johan Pahlawan Police, the Johan Pahlawan Military Sub-district Command (Koramil), the West Woyla Police, the West Woyla Military Sub-district Command (Koramil), RAPI volunteers, and the community.

"The West Aceh BPBD is still working to extinguish the fire, so it is hoped that the current forest and land fires can be completely extinguished," he said.
