Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said on Wednesday that Pancasila Sanctity Day, observed annually on Oct. 1, was a moment to reaffirm Indonesia’s founding ideology and strengthen national unity.

“This occasion is a reminder to renew our commitment to the state ideology and to safeguard national cohesion,” Pramono told reporters after leading a ceremony at Jakarta City Hall.

As inspector of the ceremony, he urged Indonesians to embrace unity, tolerance, justice and mutual cooperation, known locally as gotong royong, to build a more advanced, just and dignified nation.

He said those values were essential for preserving the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) amid the country’s diversity, with Pancasila providing a strong foundation to face challenges ahead.

Pramono stressed that Pancasila had proven to be a resilient guide for unity and national life since it was enshrined after independence.

He said the annual commemoration also served to encourage Indonesians to practice Pancasila values in their daily lives, ensuring that the ideology remained relevant across generations.

The governor highlighted the important role of young people in carrying forward those values, particularly in meeting the demands of a rapidly changing world.

“In Jakarta, we aim to develop the city into a global, inclusive and cultured metropolis, with aspirations to climb into the top 50 global city rankings in the near future. The contribution of young people is vital in driving that progress,” he said.
