In a statement on Friday, Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the revitalization effort aims to boost production efficiency, ensure stable supplies, and make fertilizers more affordable for farmers.
He noted that the ministry will coordinate closely with state-owned fertilizer producer Pupuk Indonesia to realize the plan.
Sulaiman said the company has prepared 1.2 million tons of subsidized fertilizers for the current planting season, running from this month to March next year. The amount represents 259 percent of the minimum volume required by the government.
He added that another 480,000 tons of non-subsidized fertilizers have also been readied to support farmers.
He also expressed optimism that modernizing fertilizer plants would strengthen the agricultural sector.
"With a modern, efficient, and eco-friendly production system, we can reduce farming costs and ultimately improve farmers' welfare," Sulaiman said.
During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, President Prabowo Subianto instructed Sulaiman to fully utilize the potential of state-owned fertilizer factories, according to State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi.
"The President instructed Minister Sulaiman to find new schemes and breakthroughs to ensure fertilizer availability and, if possible, revitalize our factories," Hadi said.
He added that President Prabowo views adequate access to affordable, high-quality fertilizers as vital to achieving national food security.
