Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was warmly welcomed by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung upon his arrival to attend the opening of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, on Friday.

President Prabowo was seen wearing a gray suit paired with a striped blue tie and a black peci (cap), as shown in a live broadcast on KBS’s official YouTube channel.

Upon exiting the elevator, President Prabowo was greeted by President Lee Jae-myung, who welcomed him with a handshake at the summit’s reception venue.

The two leaders then posed for a photo together, symbolizing the close friendship and partnership between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea.

Several other leaders had arrived earlier, including Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also scheduled to attend the summit.

On the first day of the APEC Summit, President Prabowo, along with other leaders from APEC member economies, will attend the first session of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM).

The session, themed “Towards a More Connected, Resilient Region and Beyond,” highlights the importance of strengthening connectivity, economic resilience, and cross-regional collaboration.

During the session, President Prabowo—accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono—is expected to deliver Indonesia’s perspective and proposals on strategic steps to build an interconnected, innovative, and prosperous Asia-Pacific region.

The president’s attendance at the summit holds strategic significance, as the APEC bloc represents around 60 percent of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) and more than one-third of the global population.

The summit also serves as a vital platform for Indonesia to reinforce its role in advancing regional economic growth.
