Kabupaten Bekasi, West Java (ANTARA) - The Bekasi District Legislative Council (DPRD) has called on the local government to maximize the use of corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR) funds as an alternative financing source for regional development amid limited fiscal capacity.

Bekasi DPRD Chairman Ade Sukron Hanas said stronger cooperation between the government and private sector through CSR programs is crucial to meet rising infrastructure needs.

“CSR can be a solution to overcome our budget limitations. The government must build strong partnerships with companies so their CSR contributions can be utilized effectively for development programs,” he said in Cikarang, West Java, on Wednesday.

He urged the administration to align CSR initiatives with regional work plans, noting that community priorities—such as road repairs and public facilities—should be addressed sustainably.

Ade criticized companies that treat CSR as a formality without delivering real benefits. “CSR should not stop at giving volleyballs or small donations. Such actions don’t reflect the true scale of a company’s impact,” he said.

Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Bekasi District, Dwy Sigit Andrian, said the government continues to coordinate CSR programs with regional priorities to ensure private sector contributions are well-targeted.

“In the near future, we will gather industrial estate managers to discuss local government proposals not covered by the regional budget so they can be supported through CSR,” he said.

Proposed CSR activities include programs in education, health, sports, culture, tourism, social welfare, economic empowerment, religion, environment, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and infrastructure.

Dwy also urged companies to report their CSR activities transparently to help ensure equitable development across Bekasi District.

“Many companies already contribute to development, but not all report their programs. We continue to push for transparent, coordinated reporting,” he said.

He expressed hope that better synchronization and reporting would enhance CSR effectiveness and meet community needs more equitably.
