Jakarta (ANTARA) - Poland’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Wladyslaw T. Bartoszewski said Warsaw hopes to deepen cooperation with Indonesia as both countries marked 70 years of diplomatic relations during a ceremony in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said Poland considers Indonesia a key partner in Southeast Asia and a long-standing friend with shared aspirations, adding that Warsaw expects the relationship to continue delivering benefits for both nations.

The event also commemorated Poland’s Independence Day, which falls on Nov. 11.

Bartoszewski noted that ties between the two “red and white” nations had grown increasingly diverse and substantive, reflected by expanding high-level exchanges and broadening bilateral programmes. Poland has received three Indonesian ministerial visits this year alone.

During his trip to Jakarta, Bartoszewski met with Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Havas Oegroseno to discuss new cooperation opportunities. He said the meeting underscored the countries’ overlapping interests and the potential to further strengthen their partnership.

The vice minister was accompanied by several Polish parliamentarians who were also visiting Indonesia to help advance bilateral engagement.

Representing the Indonesian government, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi said the partnership continued to gain momentum, with bilateral trade exceeding US$1 billion, driven largely by cooperation in the energy, health and automotive sectors.

She said the strong ties extend beyond economic links to include tourism, cultural exchange and growing people-to-people contact.

Fauzi added that both countries have the capacity to elevate cooperation into a more comprehensive partnership in the years ahead.
