Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Nusantara Capital Authority says US-based outlet The World has praised the country’s new capital project as a promising model for future cities that merge advanced technology, sustainability, and climate resilience.

In a statement from Jakarta on Tuesday, the authority quoted The World as saying Nusantara aims to become a zero-emission city twice the size of New York by 2045.

The outlet called Nusantara one of the world’s most ambitious and visionary urban projects, noting its long-term focus and strategic role in Indonesia’s development.

Nusantara Authority Chief Basuki Hadimuljono said the new capital is more than an infrastructure project.

“This is not just a project for me. We must manage it with love,” he said, adding that the authority is closely supervising development to ensure broad public benefit.

According to The World’s report, Indonesia is advancing sustainable urban planning through solar street lighting, electric public transport, and low-emission mobility systems.

Technology is central to the project, with plans for AI-enabled city systems, biometric security, and even autonomous flying taxis — positioning Nusantara as one of Southeast Asia’s most advanced future cities.

The report also highlights that building the capital from scratch in Kalimantan allows Indonesia to avoid Jakarta’s climate risks, while enabling modern, research-driven urban planning in a location with lower disaster exposure.

Nusantara’s first wave of residents consists largely of young civil servants, especially Gen Z, seen as pioneers of a modern and inclusive government workforce.

The government expects the capital to fully assume its role as the administrative and political center within the next 3–4 years. By 2028, President Prabowo Subianto, his cabinet, and central agencies are expected to be permanently based there.

International recognition comes as Indonesia accelerates construction of legislative and judicial facilities in the core government zone — part of a mandate under Presidential Regulation No. 79/2025 to speed completion of critical infrastructure.

With global attention, youth participation, and sustained political backing, The World says Nusantara represents Indonesia’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2045.
