Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian urged Maluku provincial leaders to implement strategic measures to accelerate economic growth above five percent, exceeding the national average.

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, Maluku’s year-on-year economic growth rose to 4.31 percent in the third quarter of 2025, up from 3.39 percent in the second quarter.

Karnavian said strong growth reflects healthy public economic activity and highlighted the need for leaders to monitor Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) execution to ensure alignment with initial targets.

“If revenue and expenditure do not move and fall short of target, the amount of money circulating will decrease. The economy slows down,” he said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday.

He also urged regional governments to increase locally generated revenue (PAD) by supporting private sector growth, including streamlining business licensing processes to attract investment and stimulate economic activity.

Karnavian cited the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) as a model, where micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) helped sustain economic stability during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Create programs that support the private sector so they can keep going,” he added, emphasizing the role of local businesses in maintaining economic momentum.

The minister praised Maluku for keeping year-on-year inflation at 2.30 percent, noting the challenges of managing prices in an archipelagic region vulnerable to supply disruptions.

“It’s not easy for an archipelagic region. Especially when you face big waves, but keeping inflation at that level throughout the year is very good,” he said.

Karnavian also called for coordination ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday period, following President Prabowo Subianto’s directives to anticipate higher public mobility.

“Please consolidate. Pay attention to security matters, and ensure food supply and stock because demand will rise during Christmas and New Year celebrations,” he added.
