“We are all one big family. We will not let you carry this burden alone,” he said while visiting flood survivors at an evacuation post in Batang Anai Sub-district, Padang Pariaman District, West Sumatra, on Monday.
During his visit, Prabowo listened directly to reports from the West Sumatra Governor and the Padang Pariaman District Head regarding the condition of displaced residents and the damage caused by the catastrophic disasters.
The President ensured that the Indonesian government belongs to the people and it works, serves, and manages the nation's wealth to help the people, especially victims of the disasters that struck West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.
"Therefore, let us help one another, unite, and face this difficult time together for a better future," he appealed.
During the visit, President Prabowo also emphasized the need for swift, precise, and comprehensive disaster response efforts in Sumatra.
Floods and landslides recently struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra following heavy, high-intensity rainfall.
The respective governments of the three provinces have declared a disaster emergency response status, effective from November 28 to December 11 for Aceh, November 27 to December 10 for North Sumatra, and November 25 to December 8 for West Sumatra.
According to a report from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of November 30, the death toll from floods and landslides in the three provinces of Sumatra had reached 442, while 402 people remained missing.
President Prabowo has earlier ordered the deployment of all national resources to accelerate the emergency response to the devastating floods and landslides.
In addition, the government is also currently preparing rehabilitation and reconstruction plans, including the preparation of temporary and permanent housing.
