This step reaffirms the government’s commitment to ensuring that Indonesian fishery products are not only safe and high-quality, but also halal-certified in accordance with the Halal Product Assurance Law Number 33 of 2014.
The Head of the Marine and Fishery Products Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, emphasized in a press release in Jakarta on Friday that halal certification is a crucial factor in boosting the competitiveness and acceptance of biological commodities, including fishery products.
"It is also intended to provide assurance and peace of mind to local consumers that the products have gone through every stage of the halal production process," she said.
The cooperation between the two institutions was formalized in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Jakarta on January 7.
The agreement covers cooperation in socialization, education, and the dissemination of halal product assurance policies. This move is expected to improve the understanding of the public and business players regarding the importance of halal assurance in every production stage.
The cooperation also includes strengthening the competitiveness of marine and fishery products through halal certification, the supervision of halal product assurance, and the utilization of quality testing laboratories to support the certification process.
Ishartini noted that the synergy between her ministry and BPJPH will strengthen the quality of Indonesian fishery products to compete in the global market with clear halal assurance.
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries reaffirmed that it has applied strong and consistent international standards, with Indonesian products now able to penetrate the global market and be accepted in 147 countries.
Meanwhile, BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan emphasized that halal certification plays a vital role, not merely as a form of regulatory compliance, but also as a strategic instrument to drive national economic growth.
He added that the essence of halal lies in the principles of openness and transparency, which provide traceability and build consumer trust.
