Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government has raised an alert over potential cases of dengue and “super flu,” or influenza A (H3N2) subclade K, amid the rainy season.

"I have instructed the Jakarta Health Office to pay close attention to two things, namely super flu and dengue," Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo told the press in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

He noted that no super flu cases have been recorded in Jakarta and expressed hope the capital will remain free of the disease.

On dengue, Pramono pointed out that a surge in cases has been confirmed in West Jakarta and North Jakarta. However, he voiced confidence that the Health Office is capable of addressing the trend.

"I am convinced that the handling of dengue in Jakarta has been going well, thanks to the preparedness of community health centers and hospitals in treating the illness," the governor said.

Sahruna, Head of the West Jakarta Health Office, earlier reported an increase in dengue cases between October and December last year. She also noted 19 cases recorded between Jan. 1 and 15, 2026, including seven in Kebon Jeruk and four in Kembangan.

"We have also confirmed three cases in Kalideres, two in Tambora, and one each in Taman Sari, Grogol Petamburan, and Cengkareng. Meanwhile, no cases have been reported in Palmerah," she added.

The official cited the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), saying that climate conditions in January provide a suitable environment for dengue-transmitting Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to thrive.

"Air humidity is at 82 percent, which is within the optimum range for mosquitoes—between 71 and 83 percent. Additionally, temperatures range from 24 to 31 degrees Celsius," Sahruna stated.

In response, she said the West Jakarta government has taken various measures, including combing areas for mosquito larvae in collaboration with the community.
