“Next week, God willing, next week,” Bahlil said on Friday at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 forum at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta.
He said the mine is still under review to verify alleged violations linked to environmental and safety concerns.
Martabe has been associated with flash floods and landslides that struck Sumatra in November 2025.
“If the investigation finds no serious violations, it will be returned to the owner,” Bahlil said.
Currently, PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) operates the Martabe mine.
Bahlil noted there has been no administrative process yet to follow up on the potential revocation of the mine’s license.
“This involves its mining license, work contract, environmental permit (AMDAL), and forest area use permit (IPPKH). I’ve coordinated technically with Environment Minister Hanif,” he said.
He added it would take one to two days to finalize the mine’s status before making an announcement.
“If there are issues, sanctions will be imposed. If there aren’t, we shouldn’t punish those who don’t deserve it,” Bahlil said.
On Jan. 20, the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force announced 28 companies had licenses revoked for violations, including PTAR at Martabe.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the revocations followed government environmental audits in areas affected by deadly floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
On Jan. 28, Danantara’s COO Dony Oskaria said the state-owned enterprise Perminas would take over Martabe operations to manage domestic mineral industries.
On Feb. 11, President Prabowo Subianto instructed officials to act proportionally regarding business owners whose licenses, including Martabe’s, remain under review.
Meanwhile, National Economic Council Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said President Prabowo Subianto’s decision on the Martabe gold mine license will be free from outside influence.
Speaking to reporters at the DEN office in Jakarta Friday, Luhut emphasized that the president will not allow external pressure to affect his decision.
“There is no outside pressure. The president won’t be pushed around,” Luhut said.
He added that he has met with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to discuss the Martabe issue.
