Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Alms Agency (Baznas) announced plans to distribute 10 percent of sacrificial meat generated through its 2026 Qurban program to disaster-hit regions across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces.

"These three provinces have been allocated 10 percent of the projected national haul of Qurbani meat," Baznas Deputy II Imdadun Rahmat said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that the agency considered a range of factors in determining distribution allocations nationwide, including poverty rates, sacrificial animal availability, and geographic conditions, indicating special attention to underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions.

In this regard, Rahmat described special allocations for regions recovering from disasters as part of efforts to achieve fair and equitable distribution while addressing pressing needs among certain communities.

"Our vision with this scheme is to uphold fairness and reduce inequality in distribution," he affirmed.

He further stressed that meat allocations are not determined solely by the number of sacrificial animals collected in each region. As a result, Jakarta was not allotted the largest share despite being projected to amass the highest count of animals for the Qurbani ritual.

Instead, he continued, Baznas has decided to earmark most sacrificial meat for East Java this year, citing the province’s substantial proportion of economically disadvantaged residents within its large population.

"We will distribute Qurbani meat across Indonesia with an affirmative approach tailored to regional characteristics," Rahmat said.

The official went on to say that Baznas has prepared 42 livestock hubs nationwide to support the 2026 animal sacrifice program. These facilities are backed by alms recipients empowered by the agency under its livestock initiative.

"Moreover, each hub is partnering with local small-scale livestock breeders," he added, stressing equal benefits for minor and major livestock businesses.

Rahmat also said the philanthropic agency is set to convene a large-scale technical meeting to coordinate personnel nationwide ahead of the Qurbani observance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with Islamic rules in meat distribution.
