“Amid crises, Indonesia has innovative sons and daughters who never give up and are eager to seek new knowledge,” the president said during a corn harvest event and the inauguration of 10 food reserve facilities built by the National Police in Tuban District, East Java, on Saturday.
The president highlighted corn cob-based briquettes and coal-derived fertilizer as sustainable alternatives that bolster food security initiatives led by the Indonesian Police.
Prabowo specifically encouraged wider use of innovative fertilizers, saying he believed they would help Indonesia achieve self-sufficiency in fertilizer production.
He also joked that foreign guests attending the event might discover Indonesia’s agricultural “secrets.”
“I may have made a mistake by inviting them, as they could learn about our innovations. But that’s okay. For humanitarian reasons, you are welcome to replicate what Indonesia has achieved,” he quipped.
Before delivering his remarks, the president observed demonstrations of police-led innovations in corn farming, including coal-based fertilizer, hybrid corn seeds, and the process of making briquettes from corn cobs.
A total of 36 regional police offices are participating in the second-quarter corn harvest project, covering more than 189,000 hectares. On Saturday, 1,608 hectares were harvested simultaneously.
