"In 2014, Megawati will be 67 years old and it is now time for her to make room for the younger generation," Taufik Kiemas, chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP)`s advisory council, said here on Tuesday.
He said PDIP Chairwoman Megawati ran in the presidential race in 2009 but did not make it and it was no longer feasible for her to try it again in 2014.
Taufiq Kiemas who is Megawati`s husband and also chairman of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR), said that the next presidential race would be held in an era belonging to younger figures, namely those ranging in age between 40 and 50 years.
He said if Megawati nominated herself as PDIP`s next presidential hopeful, she would face rivals from the younger generation.
"If she succeeds, there would probably be no problem, but if she loses the race again, it would be a great embarrassment in many ways," he said.(*)
